A church building was designed in 1990 with 11,000 square feet of sanctuary, classrooms, offices, library, nurseries, and kitchen. Groundbreaking for our church campus at Ackman and Randall Roads was in November 1991. Our building program was funded by a generous grant from Frontier Friends, a loan from National Covenant Properties, a financial aid package from the denomination and congregational bond purchases and designated giving.

Construction progressed steadily in 1991 and 1992. Members of the congregation played a significant part by participating in 6,000 hours of labor for projects such as concrete floors, heating system, paint, woodwork, landscape, sound system and lights.

First Service

Our first Sunday service in the new building was November 15, 1992. Our ministries continued to grow. Sunday school for all ages was available. Within the year many ministries were started for men, women and children. In May 1993 Covenant seminarian Mark Nakazono became our Youth Ministries Intern. Reverend Ken Moore was called to another church in June 1994 and Reverend Jerry Engseth became interim pastor.

Reverend Rick Hampton from the State of Washington became our senior pastor in November 1994. The church council (board) was soon enlarged and an expanded church commission structure evolved to accommodate our growing ministries.

In January 1995 the financial aid package by The Central Conference and Covenant Denomination was ended ahead of schedule because we had become financially self-sufficient. We added a second Sunday morning service in September 1995. In October 1995 we celebrated our 15th anniversary. The Building Fund bonds were paid off at the end of 1996, ahead of schedule.

North Park College graduate Heather Wales was our Youth Director during 1996 and 1997. Covenant seminarian Chris Ek took charge of Children's and Youth Ministries in September 1998.

View of Hope Covenant Church

We have been on quite a journey as a church. We are grateful for the way God has blessed us the pilgrimage of our church life. We have had wonderful leaders, people and opportunities over our many years. We know as well that we cannot live in the past. God is on the move to call people to himself and expand his kingdom. It is our intent to continue our journey as God shows us the way. We invite you to come and explore what ministry possibilities we might share together as we Know Him and Make Him Known.

Chris Ek was graduated from North Park Seminary in June 2001 and became our Associate Pastor in July 2001.
